What is Co-op Week?
Each year, Co-op Week is celebrated across Canada to recognize co-operatives – why
we’re different and the impact we have on our communities. Co-operatives help power
the economy and play an essential role in driving economic growth and strengthening
communities.

Co-operatives across Canada might hold special events, webinars or contests to celebrate
being a co-operative and help people to understand why a co-operative is unique.

What is a co-operative?
A co-operative is a business or organization, owned by a group of people with a shared goal,
who make decisions together – and share its profits if there are any.
There are many different types of co-operatives. They are often started because a group of
people are trying to address a need in their local community.

Is there a cost to become a member?
Yes. Membership requires a one-time share purchase of just $5.

How do I sign up?
Signing up is easy. Visit newhorizonco-op.crs

Do I need a membership to shop at Co-op?
No. Everyone is welcome to shop at New Horizon Co-op. However, members enjoy additional benefits, including patronage, voting privileges, equity, and member-exclusive promotions.

What benefits come with a Co-op membership?
• Being a member means you become an owner of our Co-op. You can help guide the business by voting for board members and other governance matters.
• As a member, you may receive a share of annual profits and build ownership in the business based on our Co-op’s performance and on how much you shop or use our services.
• Access to member-exclusive offers and promotions.
• The satisfaction of supporting local communities.
• There are great sign-up offers.

How do I receive cash back?
Every time you use your membership number, your purchases are recorded on your account. Depending on the Co-op's financial performance, the Board of Directors may approve a patronage allocation. The more you shop, the more you may receive back.

Can I have a joint membership with my spouse or partner?
Yes. Joint memberships are available; however, only one vote is assigned per membership at the Annual General Meeting.

What happens if I move?
If you move within our trading area, simply update your contact information and your membership remains active. If you move outside our trading area, you may redeem your membership and any eligible equity.

Can I use my Co-op number at other Co-ops?
No. Your membership represents ownership in New Horizon Co-op and can only be used at New Horizon Co-op locations. Since each Co-op is independently owned and operated, memberships are not transferable between Co-op associations.
