Mental health remains a priority for us, and we are proud to support initiatives that promote well-being.

Sponsorship Opportunity with Grande Cache Recreation Centre:  Currently, we are in collaboration with the Grande Cache Recreation Centre to explore a sponsorship opportunity. We wanted to provide a brief update to let you know that due to the impending snow and unfavorable road conditions, Brad Linterman, our Director of Operations, will be rescheduling his site visit to Monday, January 22nd. He will be available on-site from 3-6pm.

Sincerely, The New Horizon Co-op Team.

January 10, 2024

We would like to clarify that our supplier for all of our New Horizon Co-op Food Store locations is based out of Edmonton. This means that when there are shortages from our suppliers, all of our locations including Grande Prairie are affected. Generally, if something is shorted, it will be coming on the next truck. However, we understand that this is not a guarantee, and we are collaborating with our supplier on improving our fill rates. We understand that this can be frustrating, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We have narrowed down our shipment numbers and the fill rates, and we are currently receiving 88% of our produce and 90% of our groceries when the order comes in. These shortages can affect both sale and regularly stocked items. We are willing to issue rainchecks for any items that we are shorted during the sale. Although these percentages seem high, that is still a lot of items our supplier is unable to fulfill. We have inquired about changing the route for our Grande Cache location in the past, for different days but unfortunately, the trucking company prefers the current route.

We want to assure you that our Operations Team has been working hard over the last 48 hours to roll out an action plan that will support our Grande Cache Team Leaders and Team Members. This includes adding additional hours into the budget for another meat cutter to be trained that started Jan 9, 2023. We are committed and will continue to work on resolving this issue.

On Friday, January 19th, 2024, Brad Linterman, Director of Operations, will be available on-site from 3-6 pm. As a new appointee to this position, Brad will be introducing himself and addressing any inquiries or apprehensions you might have. In the event of inclement weather affecting travel, updates will be provided on this article.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this.
Sincerely,
The New Horizon Co-op Team.

January 9, 2024

We would like to extend our sincerest apologies for the stock shortages that have been occurring. We understand the inconvenience this may have caused and we want to assure you that we are working diligently to pinpoint the root cause of the issue. We agree that this is not up to our standards or expectations and we are committed to rectifying this situation as soon as possible.

We recognize the importance of our Co-op food store in the community and we want to assure you that we are taking every necessary step to improve the stock situation in Grande Cache. Please know that we are fully committed to providing the best possible service and products to our valued members and customers.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We appreciate your continued support and loyalty to New Horizon Co-op.

Sincerely,
The New Horizon Co-op Team.

February 15, 2023

The store has been dealing with a leak in the roof this past week. Roofers were on site for most the day yesterday to repair penetrations in the air and fan vents, and parts of the roof membrane system. Now we will need to wait for warmer weather again to see if all leaks have been eliminated. If needed, we will schedule the roofing company for more work. Good news: The main area of the roof is in good condition considering it's age. We have a larger scope of work planned for the roof for in the Spring!

January 6, 2023

The heat is officially up and running! The last two furnaces are currently being installed on our roof, to be finished by the end of today.

January 5, 2023

We're on the homestretch! Our renovations are estimated to be complete 6 weeks from today. (Fingers crossed for no more delays). We finally have warehouse space back, our NEW chicken program is up and running in the Deli and our Bakery is back to being fully operational so you can finally get your morning donuts again!

The walk-in meat freezer and permanent cutting room are the current focus. The cutting room is estimated to be complete in 2-3 weeks, while the freezer will likely take closer to a month to finish. Besides having reduced freezer space for meat, this shouldn’t affect our customers as our meat team works in the temporary cutting room.

As we're writing this, we have 4 new roof top furnaces on our roof, with 2 of them slated to be installed by the end of today. That means by this time tomorrow, our heat will be back up and running at full speed!

As always, thank you to the community of Grande Cache for your patience and understanding as we complete these renovations to serve the community better. We can't wait to see the modernization of the food store complete.

December 22, 2022

From our General Manager:
I want to apologize to all the Team and the customers of our Grande Cache Food Store. The lack of heat during this extreme weather is not acceptable. We recognize that on all levels.

After the last cold snap, the contractor brought in an additional (3rd) temporary roof top unit with a 4th unit as a backup. To everyone's disbelief the 3rd unit broke down on the weekend. The contractor then hooked up the backup unit and it would not run. The technician that was booked to do the repair would not travel in the extreme cold from Grande Prairie. The contractor has now rigged up a frost fighter through the front of the store to generate some heat.

I am afraid to say this as the supply chain issues have been our nemesis during this entire project, the new roof top furnaces are scheduled to arrive the 1st week in January. Through communication with the Team and Leadership the decision was made to try to stay open as we recognize our responsibility to the community as the only grocery store in town.

I am grateful for the dedication of everyone for working through this. We are in discussion about how to additionally compensate the Team for working this week.

Again, my sincere apologies.
Laurie Gronhovd, General Manager
